"What's the future, what are the uses, and what are the concerns about AI?"

Matt Doering is the Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Lakeside Lutheran High School. He recognized a big need at his school: to not only understand the concerns around AI in education, but to use AI effectively to empower teachers in the classroom.

Let’s take a look at what’s inside

Introduction: Goals and Setup

In this section we'll establish common ground and goals as educators, and acknowledge that each teacher may have unique views or apprehensions surrounding the use of AI.

Module 1: Chat GPT Background

Where did ChatGPT come from, and how did it explode onto the scene? Here we’ll establish the foundation of what ChatGPT is and how to navigate important features of its website.

Module 2: Creating Effective Prompts

There are effective and ineffective ways to utilize ChatGPT. Here we'll explore the guiding principles for getting ChatGPT to produce what you want and avoid what you don't.

Module 3: Enhancing Curriculum

This module helps teachers understand two important aspects of a quality curriculum and how ChatGPT can be used to both evaluate your current curriculum and develop a new rigorous and relevant curriculum for students.

Module 4: Enhancing Instruction

Effective instruction looks different today than it did even ten years ago. This module explores aspects of impactful 21st century instruction and important ways ChatGPT can help teachers in lesson planning and development, including student differentiation.

Module 5: Enhancing Assessment

ChatGPT can help teachers be more confident in the ways they assess their students’ learning. After completing this module, teachers will be able to create a variety of formative and summative assessment instruments that can be used in the classroom immediately.

Module 6: Enhancing Teacher "Extras"

Most teachers are also involved in some type of school extracurricular. There are times when these added activities and responsibilities require just as much creative brain power, which can be draining. But what if ChatGPT could help with these extras, as well? This module explores the model’s potential to enhance all of the extras in your school day.

Module 7: Conclusion and Next Steps

The final module provides suggestions for how your school and staff can use ChatGPT to rethink how you educate your students. Change like this is not easy, but ChatGPT makes the transition to highly effective curriculum, instruction, and assessment far more accessible.

"Taking this course has been 100% worth the time I've invested in it."

Wendy Bixby shares why ChatGPT has been worth her time as a high school Spanish teacher, volleyball coach, and musical director.
